Ben Vautier   °1935 2024   (FR)

Ben Vautier (July 18, 1935 – June 5, 2024) was a French artist of Swiss origin, known for his provocative and often humorous works. He was a significant figure in the Fluxus movement, an international and interdisciplinary community of artists from the 1960s. Vautier was especially renowned for his "écriture" (writing) technique, where he wrote short, powerful texts on various surfaces, often with a philosophical or ironic twist. His work challenged conventional notions of art and invited viewers to think about the nature of art and life. Vautier lived and worked in Nice, France, where he also ran his iconic shop "Ben Doute de Tout" (Ben Doubts Everything).
